Gainesville Breast Implants Blog
In this breast implant blog, we will attempt to answer and discuss some of the common questions and concerns patient have about breast implant surgery.
*Do you do breast implant surgery in Ocala, Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa or other areas in Florida?*
Our office is centrally located in Gainesville, Florida. While we do surgery on patients from throughout the southeast, our main office and surgery center are located in Gainesville, Florida. Our office and surgery center are located less than an hour drive from Ocala, just over an hour from Jacksonville, and less than 2 hours from Tampa and Orlando. Prices for cosmetic surgery in Gainesville, Florida are significantly less expensive than in those areas, and patients can save a significant amount of money by coming to see us.
*What is better, silicone or saline breast implants?*
This is probably the most common question we receive about breast implant surgery. Generally, most women prefer silicone implants as they have a more natural feel and a lower chance of rippling and wrinkling. If you have thin skin, or have had babies or breast fed, silicone implants will generally give a better result. For most women with good skin tone and adequate existing breast tissue (to cover and camoflage the implant), saline implants are an acceptable alternative.
*What type of anesthesia do you use?*
Your safety, comfort and overall experience are our highest priority. While many physicians choose to perform breast implant surgery using general anesthesia, we use the latest, most modern, and safe forms of twilight anesthesia (sometimes called sedation anesthesia). Twilight anesthesia avoids many of the risks/problems associated with general anesthesia, and generally makes your recovery much easier. Under twilight anesthesia, no breathing tube is place iinto your lungs, no paralytic agents are used, and you are not placed on a ventilator. Instead IV sedation is given under close observation and monitoring by a trained anesthesia provider to make you comfortable and relaxed during the procedure. Local anesthesia is then given so you don't experience any discomfort during and for several hours after the procedure. Twilight anesthesia better tolerated by most patients, is generally considered safer than general anesthesia, and minimizes recovery time. Also, post-op nausea and vomiting is extremely rare with twilight anesthesia when compared to general anesthesia.
*How can I tell if I need a breast lift in addition to breast implants?*
Whether or not a patient needs a breast lift in additon to a breast augmentation is a very common question we receive. Many patient incorrectly assume that a breast implant can "lift" the breast and correct changes to the breast from having children or weight loss. A good guage to help you determine if you need a breast lift is the pencil test. In this test, a patient places a pencil horizontally in the crease under the breast. While looking in the mirror, if the nipple location is below the pencil, most patients WILL need a lift. If the nipple position is above the pencil, most patients WILL NOT need a lift. Also, if a women feels like her breasts are laying on her upper abdomen, or she needs to pick up her breasts (lift) when describing what improvements she'd like, then a lift may be indicated.
